Earlier this year I had my first opportunity to use the new Sony a9 II on a bird photography and wildlife photography expedition. Up until then, I had used Canon DSLR gear from my beginnings with digital photography in 2003 and before that Nikon SLRs in the ‘age of film’. Here is a short review of my main impressions after using Sony’s The A7R III boasts a 42.2MP back-illuminated sensor, which is higher than the 24.2MP and 12.2MP sensors inside the A7 III and A7S II respectively. Side by side. 2 cameras compared. ADD CAMERA Sony a7R IV. Sony a9 II. move left: move right: move left: move right The A7S is Sony's newest entry in its full-frame mirrorless lineup. But where the 'R' in A7R stood for resolution, the 'S' in the 12MP A7S stands for sensitivity. We've recently received a Sony A7S and wasted no time putting it up against the A7R and Canon EOS 5D Mark III to see how it compares. The Sony A7 II is one the most advanced full-frame mirrorless camera currently available with a lot of pro features. It features a compact, magnesium alloy body that houses a 24.3 MP Full Frame CMOS Sensor with 5-axis image stabilizaiton. The A7ii is a fantastic all round camera, which is perfect for me as I do portrait, landscape, street, and a bit of everything else. The A7ii was the full package for me and with Sony focusing more and more on their full frame lenses (especially after the a9 launch), the a6500 just seemed like less and less of a competitor for me. Camera Shutter and Flash Sync Speed: The Sony A7 has an impressive 1/250 flash sync speed, while the A7R is limited to 1/160. If you are a portrait photographer and you use flash a lot, the A7 will be a better choice for this reason alone. Price: Lastly, there is a $600 difference in price between the two models. The stacked sensor of the A9 elevates the continuous shooting speed to 20fps with AE and AF Tracking. With the mechanical shutter, the performance is 5fps. The A7 III can shoot up to 10fps with the mechanical shutter. Another advantage of the A9 concerns the buffer memory: it can record up to 362 JPGs and 241 compressed RAW files in a burst. Sony claims that the accuracy of Eye AF has been improved by 30% in comparison to the older A7 III. The new A7IV has exactly the same autofocus system as the A7S III and flagship A1, with 759 on-sensor phase-detect points, supported by 425 contrast detect points that work down to -4EV. Also the autofocus system on the A7 IV works down to f/22 The two cameras offer 4K/UHD video at 30p/25p/24p and 100Mbps. The X-T2 performs a sensor crop of 1.17x while the A7 III is capable of performing full pixel readout across the entire width of the sensor at 24fps and 25fps. The only frame rate at which the Sony camera performs a crop of 1.2x is 30fps. vlVK.
